Terminations
There are few topics that have generated more commentary and discussion world-wide than the very personal issue of pregnancy termination.
On average every woman alive, during her fertile years, will have one induced abortion. In Australia alone, approximately 80,000 abortions are performed each year.
As a result, access to safe, legal abortion is essential to women's health and well-being and is an impressively safe procedure.
All terminations are performed in our state-of-the-art clinic by a specialist team.
You will be taken through a personal session with a specially trained counsellor, before talking directly with the doctor performing the procedure.
These two steps give you the opportunity to talk through any questions you might have, as well as explaining the procedures available and making a choice that best suits your individual needs.
There are two options available for termination:
The most common method worldwide is surgically, which can be performed anywhere up to 20 weeks from the first day of your last period.
The second option is medical termination, which is available up to 28 weeks from the first day of your last period.
For more information regarding each type, or for a comparison, follow the links below.
Medical Terminations
What is it?
Medical termination refers to the process of initiating a miscarriage using a combination of drugs (the 'abortion pill'). These drugs replicate hormonal changes similar to those experienced in a natural miscarriage to terminate a pregnancy without surgical intervention. It is a very safe and effective method, however does have time constraints on when it may be used. In our clinic, only a small percentage of women choose medical abortion over a surgical-procedural abortion after they have been given full information and reached an understanding of the methods.
Contraceptive Services use a drug combination recognised by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration), WHO (World Health Organisation) and other medical bodies.

When can it be used?
Medical terminations can be performed safely with a high success rate up to 9 weeks following your last menstrual period. We set a limit at this time to prevent increased levels of bleeding and discomfort in the form of cramps and pain for our patients, as well as to reduce ineffective termination.
If this method is chosen following your counselling session, we will schedule you in for a follow up visit to monitor progress. The time frame for medical abortion is generally one to two weeks, however it can vary up to three to four weeks.
Statistically, 70% of patients achieve successful termination in the first week,90% by the second week, and 90-95% by the third and fourth weeks.

Counselling
What to do with an unexpected pregnancy is an issue that confronts almost every woman at some point in their life. It is a decision that is often difficult to make, and can be made even harder by personal circumstance, or lack of support. On average every woman alive will have one induced abortion at some point in their fertile years. In Australia alone, this equates to approximately 80,000 terminations each year. As a result, we believe that access to safe, lawful abortion is essential to women's health and well-being, and strive to create a safe and supportive environment for women seeking pregnancy termination.
The goal of pregnancy counselling is to explore your options regarding pregnancy, and eventually allow you to make a comfortable, informed decision regarding your pregnancy. Counselling at our clinic is always performed one on one with a specially trained counselor in the comfort of a private room. It is completely confidential, non-judgmental, and unbiased, and whatever your decision, you will be respected and supported emotionally throughout your stay. All information regarding the procedure, possible complications and after care will be explained, and any queries will be answered. We can also provide information regarding contraception, and arrange any contraceptive services you may require.
If you would like to have a partner with you for support, that can be arranged with your counselor, however we will spend a small amount of time alone with you ensure there is no possibility of pressure or coercion.
While the counselling and procedure are generally done on the same day, if it would benefit you to schedule the procedure for an alternate day we can certainly accommodate your request.
